Studs, spikes, and {punk} graced the red carpet of the 2013 Met Gala.  I heard all about the fashions this past week, but wasn’t able to absorb the ups and downs of each celebrity until this evening.  Here is my nod to some of the top punk looks on the red carpet at last week’s event.

1. Michelle Williams, in Saint Laurent, with Fred Leighton jewels and an Olympia Le-Tan clutch [A gorgeous hi-lo dress with simple heels, hair, and make up.  Maybe not the most stand-out look of the evening, but the understated drama of her looks work perfectly.]

2. Sarah Jessica Parker, in custom Giles, with a Philip Treacy headpiece, jewels by Fred Leighton and Repossi, and custom Christian Louboutin shoes [I can’t explain how much I love this look.  And the SHOES omg.  SJP went for all out punk and I think she nailed it!]

3. Miranda Kerr, in Michael Kors, with Lorraine Schwartz jewels and Christian Louboutin clutch [Miranda looks great in this MK dress and she definitely has the body for those cutouts!  Her side-swept hair and dramatic lip color really accentuate the look.  Her spiked clutch is also amazing!]

4. Kirsten Dunst, in Louis Vuitton [One of the only women on the red carpet who dared to be different!  I think she pulls off this gorgeous teal color very well.  The different textural elements work very nicely together and there’s added drama with the plunging neckline.]

5. Emma Watson, in custom Prabal Gurung, with Fred Leighton jewels and Brian Atwood shoes [Emma is my surprise pick…she looks uh-mazing!  This asymmetrical dress looks great on her body.  The matching elements of her Brian Atwood shoes really complement the dress.  A fresh face and some swept back hair complete her overall look.]

6. Jessica Alba, in custom Tory Burch, with Jack Vartanian jewels and a Christian Louboutin clutch [Kudos to Tory Burch for designing such a stunning dress for this event.  The style, color, pattern, and cutouts look great on Jessica (who really never looks bad in anything!)  Toned-down makeup and accessories help this dress stand out over the others.]

7. Blake Lively, in Gucci Premiere, with custom Lorraine Schwartz jewels [Blake always looks stunning on the red carpet.  This two-tone dress with feathered detail fits right into the punk scene of the gala.]

8. Taylor Swift, in J. Mendel with Lorraine Schwartz jewels [I would consider this another surprise pick – I mean I barely recognized Taylor without the bold red lip!  Her gladiator-like style and the geometrical pattern on the dress are to die for.]

What were some of your favorite looks?

  1. I’m really impressed with your writing skills as well as with the layout on your blog. Is this a paid theme or did you customize it yourself? Anyway keep up the nice quality writing, it is rare to see a great blog like this one these days.

    • Thanks! I appreciate the compliments :) This is not a paid theme and I didn’t do much customization. I just try to write an appropriate amount and have enough photos/pictures to make it interesting.
